ABOUT SPEAKER: Bhante Jinaratana was born in Toronto, Canada. He became interested in meditation as a university student and attended many retreats (mostly in the Mahasi tradition) before deciding to go forth as a Buddhist monk. After staying at a number of monasteries in the Thai forest tradition (especially Dhammagiri Monastery in Brisbane), he eventually chose to ordain at Na Uyana monastery in Sri Lanka, receiving novice ordination in 2011 and higher ordination in 2012. He spent many years there before going to Pa Auk Monastery, Pyin Oo Lwin to practice meditation from 2019-2021. He arrived at Dhamsuwa Monastery (Melbourne), where he currently resides, at the beginning of the 2022 rains retreat.
